[ Sebastian snickers behind his hand briefly, but he says nothing to that. He's quick to compose himself, and he explains coolly and calmly, though his gaze is very intently on Ciel. It's clear that he's watching him for a reaction, and his calm smile stays in place the whole time. ]
Their life cycle begins as an egg, but it simply contains their most basic form, since the eggs do not provide adequate nutrition, from my understanding. They wait in the eggs where it's safe, but when a suitable host approaches, the egg will hatch. It latches onto a human's face, wrapping the tail around their necks until they fall unconscious. They cannot be safely removed, since their blood is highly corrosive, so cutting them is a poor idea, and their grip on the head is strong enough that attempting to pry them from the host's face would likely shear the skin from their head. Regardless, they have an organ to insert in the host's mouth, which keeps them alive by breathing for them, but it also allows them to insert the embryo into the host's chest.
The host will show some signs of illness, though usually not extreme, but the embryo will stay there for a week at most until it is a little less than a foot in length, in which point it will burst from the host's chest. It of course kills them. At this point, it will grow to two meters or so in height over perhaps a day.
