[Sometime during the day, when Ciel is certain no one is watching or tailing him, he slips off unnoticed for the Overseer's Office. Inside, Ciel contacts Judy through the terminal there.]

I need two things added to the commissary. A torch--the one that requires a battery, and rubber gloves.

[ From the intercom in his office, Judy's voice speaks up, calm and clear as always. ]

An interesting combination. But I can do this for you, Overseer. I'll add them as soon as I can move them to the commissary storage.

[ She pauses, then adds: ]

This is the time where I would generally ask how the Overseer is doing. You are certainly one of the most interesting ones, Ciel.

[He's aware she can "watch" him as well as everyone else, but he doesn't look at the terminal or anything else in the room to acknowledge it. Instead, he stares out of the one-way window to the atrium.] Just keep the commissary stocked with aspirin. [GOD.]

Why? Because I'm "a child"?

I can add more supplies, but there is a limited amount. There is only so much I am able to restock before there is simply no more.

Yes. But also no. You're the youngest Overseer chosen for Vault 62, but I don't disagree with the assessment that you would be given the task. That's what I find interesting. You have faced enough difficulty to be considered suitable in the first place.

[It's not necessarily meant to be condescending, but that's how Ciel takes it anyway. Because--Ciel.]

Were you human once, or were you always a robot?

[judgejudy]

I believe I was human once. I have memories of it, though they're vague. When I was programmed for his facility, most of my humanity was lost in the process.

This may have been a good thing. Or it may have been horrible.

Either way, it makes it a difficult question for me to answer with certainty.

So right now, at this present time, you would say you are not human?

[judgejudy]

I would say that I am something in between.

[alittlemaster]

When we're finished, what happens to you?

["Finished."]

[judgejudy]

Nothing. I will stay here presumably forever. I have no way to leave.

[alittlemaster]

Do you find that acceptable? That almost all of us will be dead except for the few who escape, and you will be here alone.

[judgejudy]

Not particularly, but I also don't have much of a choice. I could ask the survivors to kill me when they leave. But I'm still uncertain of whether I want to die. I have not disliked this task that I was given.

[alittlemaster]

Of course not. [Ciel doesn't expect a half cybernetic brain now lacking humanity to dislike any kind of functional task.

Even if it's assisting in assessing and murdering others.] Did you consent to doing all of this, like I did?

[judgejudy]

I did not. Really, my entire existence is an ethical violation.

[Ciel can't help but to look surprised. It's true, Judy could very well be lying, but he wonders what reason Judy would have to do so.

No consent. She wouldn't be the only one technically.] I'm going back before there's suspicion. [A pause.]

Are you able to alter the ankle cuffs in any way? Not physically, but what they can do?

Not without altering their mechanics, which I cannot do. I can only alter the voltage of the shock that is delivered. However, if they were tampered with, I could do more, of course.
