He gave Rhys two jobs: the collars and the error code. He'll kick Rhys' ass if both of them aren't complete, so while the rest of them all riot over murder, he's going to be prowling the third floor to see if shit has been opened up yet! RHYS!!]

[ Incredible, Rhys was actually useful! The three offices are open now, and in fact, wide open. They can't be locked anymore at all. However... The results aren't actually that interesting or exciting, whoops.

The three offices are pretty barren with little inside of them, but each clearly serves (or once served) a distinct purpose. There's a communications room stacked with radio, the televisions, and computer terminals, but none of them have power. The next office is what looks like a small police or security station, though it isn't stocked at all. And finally, there's a small medical office with a few medical supplies, but it's been largely picked clean. ]

Though maybe a bit disconcerting. Medical team. Security team. Shit! He tries the elevator for the vault entrance door to see if the fault had been related to the error code for the other doors.]

Also, he'll investigate what the heckie Sectors 1-9 and Sectors 10-18 happen to be, if he can. If there's cryogenic bodies, he's gonna scream.

THEN HE'S GONNA TRY THE CONSOLE; don't tell him the console refuses him because there's not five people!!]

[ There are exactly five Pip-Boys left, but Ciel won't be able to unlock the security gate that they're behind. If he tries the terminal near it, it will give an error: ]

BIO-SENSORS ONLINE. BIOMETRIC READINGS INDICATE IMPROPER THRESHOLD. CONTAMINATION LOCK DOWN.

[ It seems the gate won't open until five people are left. There are grisly reminders of that, since there are a few clothed skeletons nearby. There are three of them huddled near the gate. It seems their sector only had three survivors, and they died here unable to leave.

The elevator Ciel exited was a central one, and there are corridors to the left and right of it. The signs indicate that they'll take him to Sectors 1-9 and Sectors 10-18. The central elevator apparently goes to Sectors 19-27. ]

Shit, shit, shit. Fucking VAULT-TEC. There's only two choices. He has to make a choice and both are only the lesser of two evils since people have already died.

It has to be only five people, but--it doesn't have to be only five people necessarily? Not if they can--

Shit, he needs Rhys alive! He needs Jack or Rhys, goddammit, and they're all down there destroying each other over nothing!

Frustrated, he turns and races to the elevator to go back. He busts in the overseer's office, already yelling:] Judy, put everyone to sleep! Put everyone to sleep except Bigby!

I am afraid I cannot do that, Overseer. Not at this time. Once the execution procedures have finished, I can do so, however.

Damn! [He slams gently palms-first against the viewing glass, squinting, trying to see down into the atrium toward the judgment theater. Has no one died yet?! What the fuck is going on?] Who was voted? Is he dead?

Is Rhys dead?!

Rhys was voted, but he is not dead. He killed Jack instead.

[ There's a flicker of amusement in Judy's voice here. ]

He wants to kill himself, but he is taking time to answer questions first.

Ugh! He isn't getting out of this that easily! Only one person has to die! Put everyone to sleep! I don't care what the procedures are, do not let him die. Before he kills himself, put everyone to sleep except for Bigby, including Rhys! I'm not finished with him yet.

That is quite desperate of you, Overseer. He will not be happy if you do. He has remembered quite a bit of who he is now that he has killed four people. Will you be able to deal with the consequences of denying him his wish for death?

[ But it seems like it's a rhetorical question, since she adds coolly. ]

If that is your choice, then I will comply.

That isn't my problem! He knew what he signed up for in the beginning. He knew before he came here. It isn't my fault if he can't deal with his past.

He can take the coward's way out when I'm finished with him.

Then I look forward to seeing how this plays out. Your sector is certainly one of the more exciting ones I have observed.

I will allow him to answer some of the questions. It is useful for continuing the experiment, and this could perhaps be a stress test. But when the time comes, I will do as you ask.
